So thrilled to share with you that we have moved to our new home! Those of you who follow us on Instagram know we have started to settle in (inspite of the many boxes still waiting for me in my garage)! Living so close to the beach really makes it easy to grab our suits, forget the boxes and enjoy a morning swim!
Hope you and your families have a great summer break (we will be spending time our with the little ones getting them aquainted with the new neighborhood, but have lots great projects in the works for Fall). Don’t forget to grill something yummy, play outside and read, read, read!
Happy summer ☀

Happenings: We’ve moved!
Happenings: Big City Mom’s Biggest Baby Shower Miami

Last night Jungle Island was filled with more then exotic animals! Crowds of pregnant mommy-to-be’s attended Big City Mom’s Biggest Baby Shower Miami to learn ‘first hand’ about the latest baby gear, many even winning great prizes.
The event gathers vendors ready to demonstrate their strollers, cribs, collectables, foods and specialty services. Often these vendors give away samples, coupons and gift certificates. I love to occasionally attend these events because it’s a fun night with the girls meeting others in the “mommy industry” and to be honest it was a glorious drive to Miami with serene views of the ocean.
One of the highlights was hearing what Jamie Grayson {The Baby Guy NYC} had to say about some of the baby gear. He was impressive, not just for the mile-a-minute gobs of information he gave during the seminar, but also for his genuinely amusing candor.
Mostly, I was thrilled to see my pregnant friends leave with bags of goodies, a stroller and a play yard, compliments of Joovy and Inglesina (two of my favorites). Looking forward to the next local “mommy event!”
Via Words: Inspired thoughts
I am still in disbelief about the events that occurred in Newtown, CT. I have watched the interviews and prayed nightly for the children, teachers, and families affected by this senseless crime. Still, I have not fully processed the magnitude of this event and cannot yet find words to express how this has changed me as a mother. I know my heart is aching. May God bless and guide us all.

Paper love: Birth announcements
Admittedly, I have enjoyed a lifelong love affair with paper goodies of all kinds. So, researching birth announcements for one of my clients was a treat! I’m always impressed by simple design and delicate details. Letterpress is exquisite. Frequently, I get asked if it’s worth spending a lot of money on a birth announcement, my answer is always the same. I feel that although it’s important to be realistic in terms of personal budget, your baby’s birth announcement is a much anticipated note to the world welcoming your newborn. Not only do you share it with family and friends, but it becomes lifetime keepsake for future generations. I compiled some of my favorite designs for you here. Hope they inspire you!

Gingerbread cookies and hearts

And so it’s December…by far my favorite month of the year!
Thanks to my little ones, the holidays take on a brand new level of joy and excitement. Baking, being at the top of my ‘to do’ list, is such a thrill! My holiday baking piece de resistance: the gingerbread cookie!
I have attempted the art of gingerbread cookie baking for years (thank you, Martha Stewart for introducing me to the magical world of gingerbread as an impressionable sophomore in college). I followed her recipe at first, tweaking it here and there and then finally making it my own. Always reminding myself to treat the dough kindly, given that in spite of its scrumptious texture and richness, it can be as temperamental as a hungry toddler!
In the past, I have taken great care in meticulously decorating the cookies to delicious perfection, always seeking Martha’s “imaginary approval”. Currently, with my 2 kiddos, there really is no time for that level of culinary ambition. So, I learned recently, that’s a ‘good thing’.
When N & S saw the cookies and smelled the yummy spices, both practically backflipped off the couch in ecstatic jubilation! Together, they hung the cookies on the tree with contagious excitement and even wore the hearts as bracelets! This is the moment I’ve been waiting for since my first attempt at Martha’s recipe in 1993. Needless to say, this uncoordinated, lopsided, ‘gingerbread people’-invaded tree will forever be my favorite.

Home Office Glamour: Inspired by romance

To say it’s been a fabulously busy couple of months, would be an understatement. Many magnificent highs and ‘not-so-hot’ lows, but the year is coming to an end and all I can say is… I am thankful for it all! Lately, all I have had time for is micro-blogging (mostly Instagram), and the occasional pinning fest at 3 am when I am wide awake and feel the need to channel Mary McDonald.
These are my latest inspirations… can’t imagine a better space to write, create and work then one surrounded by lush fabrics, softness and romance (this mommy needs her space too.)

CASA: 09.12.12 | We have walls
09.12.12 First floor walls are up.
Driving up to the site is always a treat. There is a sense of happy anticipation mixed with knowing another piece of the puzzle has been added. With the kids peacefully napping in the backseat after the long drive, the professor and I were grateful to drive around for a few minutes taking in our new neighborhood. All the surrounding homes are in different states of completion, new trees have been planted and the serenity of the moment is exactly what I needed after a long week. While snapping a few shots of the site from the car window, we noticed a man and a little boy across the street inspecting their home as well. Hello, neighbors!
I am happy to report that N+S are becoming well versed in the art of construction site safety. Both donned their hard hats, no fuss. Walked around supervised, but with a sense of confidence and ownership. These are their walls… the foundation of their future home and they know it. Not sure who is the project manager as of yet, but both feel compelled to inspect and question their surroundings (as all toddlers do).
Favorite mommy moments:
Seeing my baby girl’s pink dress flowing in the wind with the gray concrete backdrop. Seconds later, I see N running straight to the backyard (where he will spend most of his time, no doubt).

Of Distinction: People Water + changing the world
all images via People Water
An inspired perspective from the folks at People Water:
“We give because we want everyone in the world to have a chance to be happy. That’s it. That is the only reason. We want everyone to have clean water for the simple reason that it is a lot harder to be happy when you’re sick–and it’s a lot harder to be healthy when the water you drink is killing you.We are so lucky. Clean water is a blessing which we often take for granted. Have you ever thought about all the other blessings and opportunities clean water grants us? It gives us the chance to grow up. The chance to chase our dreams. The chance to fall in love. The chance to have families. The chance to grow old.”
Like millions of viewers, I watched Emily and Jef fall in love on “The Bachelorette”. Recently, I came across an article in the Huffington Post about their visit to Ghana, where Jef’s company People Water has built wells to provide clean a water resource to an area currently in crisis.
The company is built on the simple (but brilliant) idea that the easier it is for people to help each other, the more likely it is that they will do it. Their Drop for Drop commitment states that for every bottle of People Water you buy, an equal amount is given to people in need (essentially, you are drinking for two).
People Water’s eco-friendly bottles are both, biodegradable and recyclable. To learn how you can get involved visit www.peoplewater.com/ambassador-program
They are a cause-driven business committed to alleviating the global water crisis (not a charity or a non-profit organization). Simply a business with conscience and a plan… to change the world.
Important info via People Water:
- An average well provides 1,000 liters of water per day. Over a 10-year period, that’s over 3 million liters of clean water.
- 3.575 million people die each year from water related diseases.
- Half of the hospital beds in the world are occupied by patients suffering from diseases associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene.
- Investment in drinking water and sanitation would result in 272 million more days of school attended each year.
- In some areas where water-gathering is impossible, private distributors charge full market prices, forcing the poorest households to spend up to 11% of their income on life’s most basic need.
